Guardian had-a-line

GUARDIAN contributors will meet on 11 March to discuss next steps in the campaign. General Secretary John Foster has held several informal meetings with Managing Editor Brian Whitaker. Several prominent writers have had sharp run-ins with the paper. Jeanette Winterson castigated the Guardian in its Letters page for its treatment of Kathy Acker while she was dying of cancer - and Lawrence Norfolk took up the cudgels in the Times Literary Supplement. Fay Weldon's agent got a swift climbdown from the paper after pointing out that it would be responsible for any publicity arising from its actions.
