IPC freelances organise

FREELANCE and casual staff at IPC were targeted in the regular newsletter handed out by the IPC unions recently.

Information on avoiding taxation at source, retaining copyright and negotiating contracts was used to highlight the work the unions do with freelance and casual workers as well as staff.

A chapels' spokesperson said: "We know many freelances are unsure about whether they can use the regular advice surgery we run, and about how they fit in to the work we're doing. We aim to close the gap between staff and freelance employees as part of our efforts to promote best practice across the board."

The IPC unions are hoping to compile a register of freelances who work regularly at the company. Please call Freelance Organiser Bernie Corbett with your details.

Advice surgeries are held on the first and third Wednesday of the month in the John Marshall Hall on Blackfriars Road. If you can't make one of these but would like to contact someone at IPC, please call Bernie Corbett or the main NUJ number (0171 278 7916) and you will be put in touch with someone. Members at IPC are particularly keen to hear from anyone who has been negotiating on copyright.
