Glittering prizes

The Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism, administered by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, include a $10,000 prize for a freelance journalist covering international news, to recognise independent and professional reporting that sheds new light on controversial issues. They are in memory of Kurt Schork, an American freelance journalist who was killed on 24 May 2000 in a military ambush while on assignment for Reuters in Sierra Leone. Deadline is 1 June: details and entry form are at www.jrn.columbia.edu/prizes/schork

And the deadline for the European Online Journalism Awards is 31 May: see www.net-media.co.uk
