Register for royalties now!

LAST YEAR the Authors' Licensing and Collecting Society distributed over £330,000 to over 800 writers for the copying of articles.

These secondary royalties are generated as a result of the Copyright Licensing Agency's (CLA) photocopying licensing scheme. The royalties are split between publishers and writers, with the writers' share being distributed by ALCS. Only magazines published within the UK are eligible: newspapers and their supplementary magazines are excluded from the scheme: those rights are administered by the Newspaper Licensing Agency.

NUJ members can claim a share of the royalties by registering details of articles they published during the years 1999-2004 and, under the current distribution scheme, each article will receive a payment irrespective of whether the copyright has been assigned to a third party or not. To join ALCS and register your articles in order to claim your share contact the ALCS Print Media Department on 0207 395 0600 or email
