LFB seasonal party
THE VENUE for the London Freelance Branch seasonal end of year winter networking party on Monday 14 December is now confirmed: thank you all for your patience. It's at the NUJ headquarters at Headland House, 308-312 Gray's Inn Road, London WC1X 8DP, (nearest Tube King's Cross), which is not the usual venue for LFB meetings.
Some free food and drink will be provided, and this year's party is hosted jointly by LFB and London Magazine Branch. The party - in place of the usual monthly Branch meeting - will be a chance to network with other working journalists, including experts from the Branch and the Freelance Office who can advise on copyright, late payments, rights at work and other issues. If you are considering standing for one of the LFB committee posts in January's Branch elections, committee members will be happy to discuss this with you at the party.
There's an early start to this year's party: it kicks of at 6.30pm and is likely to finish at 8.30, although LFB is negotiating on the possibility of keeping Headland House open until a little later. Nor is a trip to the pub afterwards ruled out.
Research by the LFB committee has confirmed that somewhat harsh lighting of the Headland House fifth floor conference room can be dimmed to give a more atmospheric party setting. And the committee's purchase of lighting and decorations - sourced from Streatham High Street's 99p shop, with a budget running into double figures - will ensure glittering illumination that is expected to rival Versailles.
The meeting on Monday 11 January is the Branch Annual General Meeting, with elections for Branch committee posts. The meeting also includes a discusson on "Priorities - what next for LFB?" - see here for updates.
