Apologetic police force

LONDON Photographers' Branch members Marc Vallée and Jason Parkinson received compensation and an apology from the Metropolitan Police following a civil action in the London County Court. In a statement on 25 June, Adrian Baxter on behalf of the Metropolitan Police admitted that the Met had breached Marc and Jason's human rights during an 8 December 2008 incident in which the two freelances were covering a protest outside the Greek Embassy.

The Met statement admitted that the force had "failed to respect press freedom in respect of Mr Vallée and Mr Parkinson", and "confirms its recognition that freedom of the press is a cornerstone of democracy and that journalists have a right to report freely".
