Kill fee wins
THROUGH ONE of the NUJ email networks, we have heard of two freelances who recently went to considerable lengths to secure payment for work that national newspaper editors didn't use.
One got 100 per cent and in the other 95 per cent of the agreed fee.
In both cases, the work was accepted, then not published, with editors initially offering 50 per cent or less of the agreed fee.
We understand that knowing their legal rights seemed to do the trick, and head off the need to actually go to law.
