{agency} gets €{grant} for robo-journalism

LEADING press agency the {agency} has received a grant of €{grant} from {internet-giant} to get computers to write local news stories based on {data-source}.

The RADAR project "will see journalists identifying national open databases from government departments, local authorities, NHS Trusts and more," said a statement from {agency}, "and creating detailed story templates across a range of topics including crime, health and employment. Natural Language Generation (NLG) software will be applied to produce multiple versions of stories, to scale up the mass localisation of news content."

According to {data-source}, RADAR stands for "Reporters And Data And Robots".

"It's going to get very interesting," commented {sceptic}, "if {agency} tries to claim copyright in the {output}."
