Strike at Swindon Advertiser - 2 and 3 January

REDUNDANCIES at Newsquest's Swindon Advertiser were announced just before Christmas in meetings lasting less than 10 minutes. In response, the NUJ chapel in Swindon has called two days of strike action for Tuesday 2 and Wednesday 3 January.

Freelances who are offered work there may wish to find themselves unavailable. Contact the Chapel if you suffer hardship as a result.

Down from a staff of 40 in 2010 to 15 today, local Newsquest reporters are on a starting salary of just £17,500.

You can visit the picket line for a photo with the strikers at 11.00 on Tuesday 2 January. It's at 100 Victoria Road, Swindon SN1 3BE: the Thamesdown Bus service 22 will get you there from Swindon Railway Station, departing at 10.40.
