The Data Journalism course has been postponed until the autumn.

Training alert

LONDON Freelance Branch and NUJ professional training will proudly present a one-day "Introduction to Data Journalism" course later this year.

Topics covered include: understanding data and risk, assessing data quality, surveys, data sources such as government and open data, Freedom of Information Act, combining and manipulating data and building graphs.

Please note that the course will not directly cover spreadsheet software, and no knowledge of spreadsheets is needed.

Attendees will need to bring their own laptop or a tablet device with a keyboard. Some exercises will require a larger screen than the screen of a smartphone.

The tutor is SA Mathieson, a freelance analyst, journalist and editor, covering IT, government and healthcare.

The course costs £55 for NUJ members, including tea and coffee provided in the breaks. It's from 10.30-17.30 at the NUJ London HQ at Headland House, 72 Acton Street, WC1X 9NB. For details and to book, see here.
