Proposed amendment to NUJ Code of Conduct

The following motion will be proposed by the NUJ's London Freelance Branch at the union's Annual Delegate Meeting which starts on 28 February 1998.

The introductory wording is a slightly sarcastic response to the rather detailed procedural reqirements of the ADM Standing Orders Committee...

This ADM instructs the National Executive Council to amend the Code of Conduct to give effect to the principle that an additional point be appended, to give effect to the priciple that
no journalist shall cause or allow the publication or broadcast of a photograph which has been manipulated, unless that photograph be clearly labelled with an internationally recognised symbol within the image area. Manipulation does not include normal dodging, burning, colour balancing, spotting, contrast adjustment, cropping, editing and obvious masking for legal or safety reasons.
