Workshops on Freelance Journalism, ideal for those planning a new career or wanting to contribute articles on a part-time basis, are provided by Mike Stares.

They include multi-sales marketing and presentation skills, plus many invaluable 'tricks of the trade' culled by Mike during his 30-plus years in the business.

Mike is an enthusiastic freelance journalist and tutor who also runs Editorial Training Courses called "Introduction to Journalism" which are accredited by the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ).

The courses cover basic and confidence-building journalism techniques and are ideal for companies and voluntary organisations, Press officers, Publicity departments, PR Executives and any other would-be wordsmiths seeking to sharpen their writing skills.

A strong practical emphasis, rather than a lecture format, means that by the end of the course the student will have the know-how to make a worthwhile contribution to any publication, including Newsletters, House Journals or Press Releases.

There are also opportunities to discuss and analyse previous work, published or non-published, if appropriate.

Mike, who founded the Cotswold & Swindon News Service in 1968, serving all national and regional media, also runs workshops on Making the Most of the Media; Feature Writing and Press Releases at in-house seminars, college courses and evening classes.
